About Us
Our Journey
We knew that we wanted our new shop to reflect us and our mill – that’s why we commissioned Yellow Broom, designer/makers based in the Cairngorms National Park who we supply wood to regularly. We’ll hand over to designer Clare Waddle to explain more about the concept…
“Recognising the need to source materials sustainably, we repurposed the corrugated tin from the roof of a derelict building on Logie Estate. We used this to frame the whole interior space; playing with bringing the outside in, we created gentle curves to the otherwise square walls to give a softness and flow.
“As freelance designer/makers it is comforting to work with a company that not only has an awareness of supporting the use of non-virgin materials, but has a commitment to sustainable forest practice and wood management – and one that continually supports and values craftsmanship and the handmade.
“The sales desk is made from a selection of Logie Timber’s Scottish hardwood. We steam bent each piece into a gentle curve to reflect the wall space, giving customers a clear sense of what woods are available from the mill and their potential applications.
“The main window display was designed to showcase retail products, highlighted with a playful approach of our signature handcrafted lighting. Combining ancestral ash with the estate building roof, we wanted to echo a kind of ‘field to product’ feel to the area.
“This interior project has been exciting – a joy to design and build – and is still evolving. We are grateful to the Logie Timber team for taking this creative approach to their new retail space. echoing their commitment to makers, craftspeople and artisans – as well as the building industry.
“This interior is a perfect example of addressing the need to be more aware of our environmental responsibilities through the considered application of repurposed materials and responsibly sourced wood.”
