The Team

Mark Councill

Founder

Mark is an experienced forester who is passionate about ensuring that there is an established market for high quality hardwood production in the region. With Clean Cut Forestry, his tree surgery and forestry business, he sources quality timber from forestry jobs that would otherwise be a waste product or cut up into firewood. Logie Timber works symbiotically with Mark’s pre-existing forestry business to complete our Full Circle approach.

Mark holds a wide range of chainsaw and tree surgery qualifications and is a member of the International Society of Arboriculture. He plays rugby, is a keen climber in any spare moment, and was an outdoor instructor & rope access technician in a past life. He holds Mountain Leader Award, Single Pitch Award. He lives in Grantown with his wife Gill and dog Reiff.

Alec Laing

Founder

Alec is a 5th generation landowner who manages Logie Estate. The Estate has a significant amount of timber including interesting woods that aren’t suitable for traditional commercial forestry and could be put to good use. The idea of adding value to our local natural resources was the initial impetus to start Logie Timber.

After growing up at Logie, Alec moved away, trained as a mechanical engineer (BEng, MEng) and worked for some time in the motorsport industry, and later several years in tourism. In 2013 he moved back home to work at Logie. Alec is a sometime cyclist, car-tinkerer, bag-piper, skier & general fixer/builder of anything from houses to pizza ovens. He, his wife Jo and their three children live on Logie Estate.
