Why Scots Pine from Moray?
Nestled along the Moray coast, our sawmill benefits from one of Scotland’s finest environments for growing our native Scots pine. With its well-drained glacial sands, dry, acidic soils, and cool, frost-prone climate, Moray offers prime conditions for this hardy species. In fact, Scots pine accounts for roughly 45% of the upper canopy in Moray’s native woodlands. Leveraging such abundance means we can craft beautiful flooring and lining boards from right on our doorstep.
Locally Sourced, Lower Impact
Importing timber contributes significantly to carbon emissions—transport alone accounts for nearly 49% of the timber industry’s total carbon footprint. Sourcing locally slashes those emissions.
Plus, increased demand for home-grown timber encourages more tree planting in the UK, fostering a positive cycle of sustainable forestry and reduced reliance on imports.
Our Product Line-Up
- Profiles: Choose from Tongue & Groove (T&G) or V‑T&G (featuring a small V-groove for a refined finish). Need extra strength over joists? Opt for end matching, adding durable joints on board ends.
- Widths: Available in 185mm, 140mm, 90mm, and 65mm.
- Lengths: Typically supplied as mixed lengths—ranging from 1m up to 4.8m. Prefer fixed length boards? We offer 3.6m, 4.8m, and occasionally 6.1m full-length boards, though these cost more due to higher quality control and lower material recovery, the lead times will also be longer for these than the mixed length option.
- All boards are kiln-dried to ~10% moisture for exceptional dimensional stability—warping and shrinkage are minimized. We recommend acclimatising boards on-site for at least one week before fitting, to allow moisture levels to stabilise in situ.
Introducing Denim Pine: Nature’s Blue Accent
One of our standout features is Denim Pine—a natural blue-grey streak through the timber, caused by harmless sapwood fungi known as blue‑stain in the industry. It penetrates deeply, making it an aesthetic asset, not a structural flaw. Blue stain doesn’t affect strength or durability of the timber and will not change over time as when the boards are dry, the staining stops.
Perfect Finish with Knot Filling
After planing, we treat each board with professional-grade knot-filler. It smooths knots and cracks, ensuring a clean, seamless surface and reducing dust or dirt accumulation—a practical enhancement for both flooring and linings.
