Kiln 2 Gets a Power-Up: Faster Drying, Better Timber

New kiln fit out

We’re thrilled to share that big things are happening behind the scenes at Logie Timber – Kiln 2 is getting a serious upgrade!

You might spot a rather unusual structure tucked away on site… a 13-metre refrigerated lorry back – now transformed into a state-of-the-art drying kiln. But it’s what’s inside that counts.

How We Got Here

Earlier this year, we had the opportunity to buy a high-end Lauber LQA20 drying system from Woodworkz – unused, still in great condition, just waiting for a home. It didn’t come with all the components we needed, but we saw the potential.

So, we worked directly with Lauber in Germany to source the remaining parts:

  1. A new cross-flow ventilation tower with twin 710mm fans
  2. Upgraded automatic humidification and moisture extraction systems
  3. An second electric heating system delivering a additional 33 kW of power
  4. A fully programmable MP9010 control unit

Together, we’ve kitted out a drying chamber that now rivals anything on the market.

What This Means for You

The real benefit? Speed and consistency.

With this new setup:

  1. Drying times will drop significantly, especially for thicker stock and denser species.
  2. Drying quality will be more even and reliable, reducing defects and wastage.
  3. We’ll be able to increase production without compromising on quality.

All of this helps us do what we care most about: getting beautiful Scottish timber into your hands faster – with the performance and finish your project deserves.

What’s Next?

This is part of a wider investment in our kilning infrastructure. With both all 3 kilns running efficiently, we’re aiming to:

  1. Reduce average lead times
  2. Keep more species in stock at ready-to-use moisture levels
  3. Offer short-run drying services to trade customers

If you’re a furniture maker, joiner, or builder who’s struggled with long waits for quality dried timber — this should be welcome news!

Thanks for Growing With Us

We’re a small team, but we never stop pushing for better quality, better service, and better timber. This upgrade is just one more step in that journey.

As always, if you’ve got questions about stock, custom drying runs, or how this might affect your project timeline — we’re just an email or phone call away.

Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes updates next month!
